SJS was established in 1982. Local management committees were set up by local tertiary students’ associations to facilitate the Government’s student wage subsidy scheme. 40 years later, the fight for student well-being in Aotearoa is as important today as it was in 1982. The switch from the candidate-saturated market in the 80s and 90s to the job-saturated market we see today, however, is a testament to the incredible work SJS has done and continues to do in proving the hard-working, reliable, and passionate qualities that students and graduates bring to thousands of employers across Aotearoa every year.
